Brown Pelican Photo - Mayport, Florida

We recently traveled to Jacksonville, Florida, to tend to a family health issue.  On the way home, we took a somewhat scenic route and saw this Brown Pelican take flight in Mayport, Florida.  If you are ever traveling along A1A in North Florida, it's a lot of fun to take the St. John's River Ferry across from Mayport to Jacksonville.  For a few dollars, you get to take a mini cruise across a beautiful river.

This State of Florida Court House has been called the Tallahassee Taj Mahal.  It's a magnificent, but expensive, building and it made a good target for my Vintage Canon AF35M2 SureShot AutoBoy II 35mm film camera.

Tallahassee is the home of a dedicated Goodwill Car Sales location.  They get lots of interesting cars and have them for sale at low prices.  This kit car was way too small for me, but it looked neat.

This Triumph TR-7 was more my style.  However, it had been converted over to use some Ford or Chevy engine.  Some strange vehicles live in the far off parts of Florida.

Giant Yellow Spider in Abernathy Greenway Park - Sandy Springs, Georgia

This strange contraption is a piece of playground equipment and statue of a giant spider that stands in Abernathy Greenway Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia.

Green Anole on a Crepe Myrtle Tree

This photo is of a green anole lizard on a crepe myrtle tree in the Atlanta, Georgia area.  I thought that the green of the lizard was a major contrast to the starkness of the bare trunk of the tree.

Sandy Springs Fire Department Assisting in Chattahoochee River Vehicle Recovery

A few weeks ago, we visited one of our favorite parks in Sandy Springs, Georgia.  While we were there, we happened to see some drama.  Apparently, someone had a mishap while trying to launch a kayak at a boat ramp into the Chattahoochee River.  Their vehicle slipped into gear or was never really in park and rolled right into the fast flowing waters of the Hooch!  Fortunately, no one was hurt.


However, the Sandy Springs Fire Department did show up to help recover the sunken car.  Here are some pictures of a hook and ladder truck and a pumper truck that came to the seen.

The fire fighters had a heck of a time trying to attach a rope to the sunken SUV.  They didn't want to risk getting themselves tangled in the process.  Here a fighter fighter studies the situation from the end of the ladder.
 

Here is the pumper truck that stopped by to provide manpower.  I overheard that the firefighters had been getting things all shiny for an inspection the next day.  However, this call brought them down a dirt road.

Abandoned Place: Old Tobacco Barn In Leland, North Carolina

Here are a couple of photos I took of what I think is an abandoned tobacco barn near Leland, North Carolina.  It was located near the parking lot of a moving truck rental place.  I'm not sure if it was abandoned or used for storage, but it certainly is an old building with lots of character.  I took this picture from a nearby parking lot and did not trespass on the property.

I know from my own family history that tobacco was harvested and allowed to hang and dry in totally closed barns.  I suspect that the poles that are being used to bolster the roof overhang originally belonged inside for hanging tobacco.

At any rate, this weathered building has character in spades and is a wonderful sight in any southern landscape.

Buddha Photo

Some people travel far and wide to see exotic sites.  That's great if you have the budget.  But, I just zoom in a little closer on things that are a little closer to home.  For example, this Buddha was for sale in a Ross, TJ Maxx, or Marshalls store.
